TIE BREAKING PROCEDURE

Standings will be determined by match record first, then points for the first tiebreaker.

For example, if Team "A" is 17-7 with 49 points and Team "B" is 16-8 with 53 points, Team "A" with 17 wins would be placed higher.

Points follow the international scoring system: 

  • Match won 3-0 or 3-1: 3 points
  • Match won 3-2: 2 points
  • Match lost 2-3: 1 point
  • Match lost 0-3 or 1-3: 0 points
  • Match forfeited: 0 points (25-0, 25-0, 25-0)

If teams are still tied after examining the number of victories and points gained, then Canada West will examine results to break the tie in the following order:

a) Set ratio. If two or more teams are tied on the number of points gained, they will be ranked by the ratio resulting from the division of the number of all sets won by the number of all sets lost.

b) Points ratio. If the tie persists based on set ratio, the teams will be ranked by the ratio resulting from the division of all points scored by the total of points lost during all sets.

PLAYOFF FORMAT

The top ten (10) teams qualify for the playoffs. Playoff seeding will be determined by match record first, then points for the first tiebreaker.

Week 1 – Play-in Round (Best-of-three series):

Series A: 9 @ 8 

Series B: 10 @ 7

Week 2 – Quarterfinals (Best-of-three series):

Series C: Winner A @ 1

Series D: Winner B @ 2

Series E: 6 @ 3 

Series F: 5 @ 4 

Week 3 – Final Four (Single elimination games at highest seed):

Day 1: 

G: Winner C vs Winner F

H: Winner D vs Winner E 

Day 2: 

I: CW Bronze Medal - Loser G vs Loser H

J: CW Gold Medal - Winner G vs Winner H 

NOTE: Order of Day 1 games of final four (semi-finals) is determined by host. Bronze Medal Game must be played prior to the Gold Medal Game.
