WHKY: Pair of CW student-athletes selected for coach mentorship program

TORONTO / CALGARY - A pair of Canada West student-athletes have been selected to participate in Creating Coaches, a new program created by U SPORTS and The Hockey Canada Foundation to increase the number of women in coaching positions in Canada.
Mount Royal's Tatum Amy and Regina's Ireland Sorestad have been selected for the two-year mentorship program that will focus on training, mentoring and empowering women while strengthening and positively impacting the women's game.
Through three seasons on the ice at Mount Royal, Amy has scored 12 goals and recorded 25 assists. Off the ice, Amy is the president of the MRU Cougars Athletic Board (CAB).

Sorestad has played 83 games in her career at Regina registering four goals and 10 assists while achieving Academic All-Canadian status in 2018-19 and 2019-20. Sorestad is also a frequent instructor with the University of Regina's Cougar Cubs program and at camps.

The coach mentorship program is Phase One of the program, with Phase Two being the current U SPORTS Female Apprentice Coach Program. Former Alberta Pandas women's hockey player Taylor Kezama is a current participant in the program.
