VANCOUVER - The UBC Thunderbirds are looking to defend home court and punch their tickets to the Canada West Final Four in their best-of-three quarterfinal series this week against the Brandon Bobcats.
The T-Birds are coming off a nice playoff primer against the Alberta Golden Bears, where UBC split on the road to secure the second seed. Their reward for that performance is home court this week, and a date with the 10-12 Bobcats.
UBC and Brandon clashed in Vancouver less than a month ago, with the T-Birds earning 3-0 and 3-1 victories on the strength of their potent offence, led by Ben Chow. He had 34 kills over the seven-set series, and the 'Birds hit over .280 as a team.
Chow has been a crucial part of UBC's finely tuned offensive machine this year, finishing tied for fifth in the conference with 3.72 kills per set. He also hit .308, displaying an impressive combination of high-volume production and efficiency. The only two games he missed this season were against 4-18 UBC Okanagan, both of which the T-Birds lost.
As for the Bobcats, Dan Boutwell will be the key, averaging 1.81 kills while hitting over .400. Sam Tuivai is the offensive centerpiece, having started every game this season and averaging 3.56 kills per set.

KAMLOOPS, BC - The Thompson Rivers WolfPack are confident as they make their return to the playoffs after a two-year absence, hosting a quarter final series for the first time at the Tournament Capital Centre.
Both squads are nationally ranked. TRU is #6 in the final CIS ranking, while Saskatchewan is #7.
The WolfPack could have a key offensive cog back. Brad Gunter is working his way back into the line up after tweaking an ankle two weeks ago against Trinity Western. Gunter finished as the Canada West leader in kills (5.31 per game) and in points (6.04). He was also third in service aces (0.40) and eighth in digs (2.24 per game).
Carson will again be the main man quarterbacking the WolfPack offence, as he was the Canada West leader in assists (10.93 per set).
Matt Krueger finished ninth in the league in digs (2.23) while Jacob Tricarico was seventh in hitting percent (.412).
For the Huskies, McLean was third in Canada West in blocks (1.19 per game), Jordan Nowakowski (3rd year, left side, Regina, SK) finished ninth in service aces (0.28) while Fraser was 10 th in digs (2.15).
