MSOC: Golden Bears blank Pronghorns in regular season finale

EDMONTON - In the final regular season contest for both sides, the host Alberta Golden Bears cruised past the visiting Lethbridge Pronghorns with a 2-0 win, Sunday afternoon at Foote Field.
The win is the fifth for the Golden Bears, who finish fourth in the Prairie Division of Canada West with a 5-6-3 record. They will visit the No. 1 seed UBC Thunderbirds next weekend in a Canada West quarter-final match.
Lethbridge concludes their season without a win, finishing at 0-11-3.
Alberta outshot Lethbridge 17-3 over the course of 90 minutes, scoring once in each half. Lethbridge committed an own goal late in the first off a Bears corner kick, before Syed Shah doubled their lead in the 63th minute.
Liam Collens made one save in the shutout, while Matthew Vandervoort made five saves for Lethbridge in the loss.
The Bears dominated possession throughout the match, but struggled early at converting their chances. Alberta had six corner kicks in the opening 45, as well as two free kicks from dangerous opportunities. It wasn't until their final corner kick from Cam Borrett in the 37th that bounced in off a Pronghorn defender did the Bears finally open the scoring.
Benjamin Kutas had the lone scoring chance for Lethbridge, but his shot from outside the 18-yard box was turned aside by Collens.
The play was similar in the second, with a handful of Vandervoort saves keeping the game at 1-0.
The Bears strong play was eventually too much for the Pronghorns to handle, as Shah tapped in a gorgeous feed from Rilind Idrizi.
Alberta closed out the match by smothering ball possession, sealing the 2-0 win.
