Saskatchewan rookie standout Kohl Bauml named WHL Grad of the Month

NEW WESTMINSTER – First-year University of Saskatchewan Huskies forward Kohl Bauml is the WHL Grad of the Month for January, as announced Friday by Canada West Universities Athletic Association (CWUAA).
Bauml, who played nearly 300 career WHL games over four seasons with the Everett Silvertips, tallied 17 points in eight games during the month of January to lead the Huskies to a perfect 8-0-0 record, which allowed Saskatchewan to clinch their first regular season title since 1999-00.
The Saskatoon native is currently third in the Canada West scoring race with 32 points and is eight points clear of fellow Huskies Levi Cable and Andrew Johnson for the conference rookie scoring lead.
A business student, Bauml hasn’t missed a beat since making the jump to the Canada West level this season, carrying over his strong play from a season ago when he tallied 30 goals and 30 assists for the Silvertips, while also wearing the ‘C’ in Everett.
Bauml and the CIS No. 1-ranked Huskies are in Edmonton this weekend, where they’ll take on the No. 7 Alberta Golden Bears Friday and Saturday night.
Other nominees for the WHL Grad of the Month award were: former Edmonton Oil King Riley Kieser (Alberta), ex-Saskatoon Blade Steven Stanford (Calgary), Swift Current Bronco alum Jay Merkley (Lethbridge), former Red Deer Rebel Jordan DePape (Manitoba), and ex-Regina Pat Tanner Olstad (Mount Royal).
