Reddick named captain of Team Canada
Kruise Reddick, a fourth-year University of Alberta Golden Bearshockey forward from Manor, Saskatchewan, has been chosen asCanada’s captain for the 2015 Winter Universiade Games inGranada, Spain.

The 27th biennial Games will run from Feb. 3-14, with themen’s hockey gold medal match set for the final day ofcompetition. Team Canada is the reigning Universiade champion, andbegins defence of its title on February 3 with a game against Koreaat 9:00 a.m. MT. Canada will also play Sweden (Feb. 5 at 9:00 a.m.MT) and Russia (Feb. 7 at 9:00 a.m. MT) in preliminary play, andthe medal round begins on Feb. 11.
All games will be streamed live on FISU TV.
Reddick, who previously played for the Tri-City Americans of theWestern Hockey League, currently serves as the captain of theGolden Bears, and has amassed 88 points in 105 Canada Westconference games, as well as 141 points in 164 overall games. Lastseason, the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation studentmissed almost the entire second half of the season with injury, aswell as the Canada West playoffs, but returned to the line-up justdays before the University Cup tournament, and after a seven-weekrecovery from surgery. He banked five points in three games at thenational championship tournament to lead the Bears to their14th title, and was named to the tournament all-starteam.
“It’s a tremendous honour, and a bit of a shock. Idon’t think it has sunk in just yet,” noted Reddick.“It was an incredible honour to be selected to this team inthe first place, and the opportunity to lead it, and hopefully helpdefend Canada’s gold medal, is incrediblyexciting.”
Golden Bears teammate Jesse Craige, a fifth-year defenceman fromEdmonton, was chosen as an alternate captain for Canada aswell.
