WINNIPEG - A strong start lifted the #9 Saskatchewan Huskies to an 85-72 victory over the Winnipeg Wesmen in a key contest on Saturday.
The Huskies built a 19-2 lead five minutes into the opening quarter and never looked back.
Saskatchewan with the win improves it's record to 15-5. Winnipeg with the loss falls to 13-7. The Huskies sit currently in second place in the Prairie Division standings. Winnipeg is currently in fourth. One game back of Lethbridge (14-6) for third place.
Four out of five Huskies starters figured in double digits led by Dadrian Collins who scored a game high 22 points, including going six-of-eight from three point territory. Matt Forbes was next with 17.
Andrew Cunningham led the Wesmen with 21 points and seven assists. Jordan Clennon was next with 14. Christopher Baxter and Jelane Pryce each scored 10. Pryce and Steven Wesley led the team in rebounds with six.
Saskatchewan will be on the road next week in Edmonton to face the Alberta Golden Bears. Winnipeg will play Manitoba in a home and home series on Thursday (at U of M) and Friday at the U of Winnipeg).

WINNIPEG – The Manitoba Bisons kept a close score line with the #4 Alberta Golden Bears for the second night, but lost the game 87-71 on Saturday at the Investors Group Athletic Centre (U of M campus).
The Golden Bears clinched the Canada West's Prairie Divisions top spot, improving their season record to 18-2. The Bisons fall to 5-15.
Joel Friesen led the Golden Bears with 17 points, and teammate Jordan Baker had a double-double, netting 15 points, and coming up with 10 rebounds.
Manitoba's next game goes against their crosstown rivals the University of Winnipeg Wesmen on Thursday, February 8, in the 23rd annual Duckworth Challenge. Alberta plays host to the University of Saskatchewan Huskies next weekend on Friday and Saturday.

VICTORIA – Rebounding from yesterday's upset the #3 Victoria Vikes totaled 16 three-pointers to put away the visiting Thompson Rivers WolfPack, 94-74, on saturday at McKinnon Gym.
Four different Vikes drained three treys in the game as the CIS No. 3-ranked team's record improved to 17-3, while the WolfPack now fall 12-8.
Senior Terrell Evans led in scoring with 19 points in only half a game played after early foul trouble. Six-foot-ten Chris McLaughlin was unmanaged by the WolfPack as the fourth year had a double-double of 18 points and 12 boards.
For the WolfPack, the back-to-back match up proved wearisome for the seven-manned bench but third-year Josh Wolfram used his six-foot-ten stature to lead all scorers with 26 points. Fellow third-year Ta-Quan Zimmerman hit double digits for the second-straight night with 23 points.
Next week the Vikes will end their regular season with a home-and-home series with the UBC Thunderbirds, Feb. 14-15. The Feb. 14 game will also be the annual Shoot for the Cure in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation as well as graduating seniors night, where the Vikes will honour fifth years Ryan Erikson and Evans.

VANCOUVER - For the second night in a row, the UBC Thunderbirds beat out rivals the UBC Okanagan Heat in a 85-77 win that moved them closer to securing a playoff spot.
Tommy Nixon had a 25-point, seven-rebound performance to lead the home team while teammates Andrew McGuinness and Harpreet Randahawa scored 18 and 14 points, respectively.
Yassine Ghomari scored 20 for the Kelowna visitors.
UBC move to 11-9 on the season and can secure a playoff spot with two wins over Victoria. It is possible for them to lose one or both games next weekend and still qualify for the postseason but it all depends on other results going their way. Two wins would guarantee a trip to the Canada West quarter-finals.

BRANDON, MB – The Lethbridge Pronghorns made it a weekend sweep of the Brandon Bobcats, picking up a 94-78 victory Saturday night.
The win gives Lethbridge a 14-6 record on the season as they move one step closer to the Canada West playoffs.
Four Pronghorns finished in double-digit scoring led by Logan Reiter's game-high 22 points. Alex Fletcher had 18 points while Brandon Brine and Rob Olsen both finished with 14 points.
Playing in his final home game as a Bobcat, fifth–year guard Emerick Ravier finished with 16 points and six rebounds while Kenonte Ramsey finished with 16 points and five rebounds.
Ilarion Bonhomme and Jordan Reaves each had 13 points for the Bobcats.
Next weekend both teams will play their final Canada West regular season games. The Bobcats will conclude the season on the road against Regina while the Pronghorns will play a home and home series against Calgary before playing in the post-season.

REGINA – Travis Sylvestre scored a career-high 24 points and Brendan Hebert set Regina career assists record as the Cougars (5-15) defeated Calgary by a 92-81 margin on Saturday at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
Hebert needed just two assists to pass Zach Michell as the school's all-time leader, and the fourth-year guard ended up with 11 in the win. He broke the record in the first quarter, collecting his 348th career assist on a Kade Marra three-pointer that tied up the game at 14-14.
Sylvestre was 8-for-14 from the field overall and 2-for-3 from three-point land, while Hebert was 3-for-4 from downtown and ended up with 16 points while leading all players with 11 assists.
Jarred Ogungbemi-Jackson was 8-for-19 from the field, 5-for-12 from three-point range, and led all players with 27 points while also adding five rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Josh Turner scored 20 points.
Calgary (6-14) will close out the 2013-14 season next weekend with a home-and-home against Lethbridge, while the Cougars finish off the conference schedule with home games against Brandon on Friday and Saturday.

CALGARY – The Mount Royal Cougars' playoff hopes took a hit on Saturday night as they lost 80-77 to the TWU Spartans.
Kelvin Smith and Denny McDonald had 18 and 17 points respectively for the Spartans. Deng Awak led the Cougars with 17 points.
With the win the Spartans jump to 10-10 and the Cougars will drop to 8-12.
Trinity Western will head back to Langley where they will begin a home-and-home series with Fraser Valley on Friday night.
The Cougars will welcome UNBC into Kenyon Court for their final two regular season games next weekend. Tip-off for the first game will be at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.

PRINCE GEORGE, BC - The UNBC Timberwolves fell short to the Fraser Valley Cascades in their final home game of the season.
The Cascades move to 15-5 after defeating the Timberwolves 67-61. The Timberwolves now fall to 4-16 after their loss on Saturday night at the Northern Sport Centre.
The Cascades were led for the second night in a row by Jasper Moedt and Kevon Parchment. Moedt and Parchment netted 17 points apiece.
Graduating players Charles Barton and Daniel Stark were instrumental for the Timberwolves. Barton put up a double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds, Stark added 13 points of his own and pulled in six boards.
UFV will face the Trinity Western Spartans next weekend. The Cascades will play in Langley on Thursday, February 13 and finish their season at home on Friday, February 15.
The UNBC Timberwolves will travel to Calgary, AB next weekend to finish their season against the Mount Royal Cougars. Games are set for Friday, February 14 and Saturday, February 15.

VICTORIA – Former Vike Reese Pribilsky served all the damage needed for the Thompson Rivers WolfPack to pull off a much-deserved upset over the #3 Victoria Vikes, 82-68 on Saturday at McKinnon Gym.
With the loss the Vikes fall 16-3, while the WolfPack improve to 12-7.
The Vikes' Terrell Evans had a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Marcus Tibbs, Reiner Theil and Mack Rotheach ended the night with 10 points.
For the heroic WolfPack, Pribilsky played 40 minutes straight and put up 26 points and eight rebounds. Third-year Ta'Quan Zimmerman made up much of the scoring with 31 points.
The Vikes men's and women's basketball teams made 17 three-point shots on KidSport night to assist in the donation of over $1650 to the Canada West supported initiative. The Vikes and WolfPack will battle again at McKinnon Gym tomorrow, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live at canadawest.tv. The Vikes are already guaranteed to host the first round of playoffs with the Canada West quarter-final best-of-three series set for Feb. 21-23 at McKinnon Gym.

WINNIPEG - The Manitoba Bisons hung in with the country's #4 Alberta Golden Bears, for 20 minutes of play but were outplayed in the second half, losing 70-56 at Investors Group Athletic Centre on Friday.
With the win, Alberta wins their sixth straight and moves to 17-2, continuing their run atop Canada West's Prairie Division. Manitoba falls to 5-14.
Alberta was led by their school's all-time points leader, Jordan Baker, who had 16 points and ten boards. Joel Friesen and Czar Robotham came off the bench to add 10 and 12 points, respectively.
Manitoba's high points man was Mike Holloway, who had 12 with six rebounds. Andre Arruda and AJ Basi chipped in 11 each.
The Bisons men's basketball team finish their weekend back-to-back against Alberta on Saturday night, tipping off at 7 p.m.

WINNIPEG - A total team effort and some clutch shooting lifted the University of Winnipeg Wesmen to a 91-60 victory over the #9 Saskatchewan Huskies in a key match-up at the Dr. David F. Anderson Gymnasium on Friday.
Travis Krahn, back in the lineup after missing nine games due to injury, led the Wesmen with 18 points, all coming on three-pointers. Jelane Pryce added 15. Kurtis Sansregret had 14, with four-three pointers. Steven Wesley and Christopher Baxter each had 12.
Dadrian Collins led the Huskies with 19 points and hauled in eight rebounds. Matt Forbes added 16 while Ben Baker had 11 points and a game high nine rebounds.
Winnipeg improves their record to 13-6, one game back of the second place Huskies who sit with a record of 14-5.

PRINCE GEORGE, BC - The Fraser Valley Cascades extended their winning streak to 11 straight games on Friday at the Northern Sport Centre.
Fraser Valley, now 14-5, defeated the UNBC Timberwolves, with a record of 4-15, by a score of 87–62.
The Cascades were led by Kevon Parchment. The 6-3 Toronto native dropped 24 points and was a solid 5-5 from behind the arc. Jasper Moedt added 22 points and 12 rebounds.
Franck Olivier Kouagnia was dominant underneath the basket, putting back 17 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Forward Dan Stark chipped in 11 points and seven boards.

Four Pronghorns finished in double-digit scoring, led by Reiter and Olsen who each had 16 points. Alex Fletcher finished one rebound shy of a double-double (15 points, nine rebounds).
Four Bobcats finished in double-digits as well, led by Ilarion Bonhomme's team-high 16 points. Ali-Mounir Benabdelhak had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
The win improves Lethbridge's record to 13-6, while Brandon falls to 5-14.
The teams meet again on Saturday night, the Bobcats final home games of the season.

VANCOUVER - UBC moved above a .500 record for the first time since the second week of the season as they held out against a struggling UBC Okanagan Heat (3-16), who have now lost six games.
The 69-58 win moves the Thunderbirds to 10-9 with just three games remaining.
Friday's game also served as a fundraiser for KidSport Vancouver, a charity that ensures children in financial need have access to sporting opportunities. Every made UBC foul shot and missed UBCO one resulted in a $20 donation. A raffle at the game also contributed to a sum of $825 that was given to KidSport Vancouver. In the UBC-UBCO women's game on Friday, $795 was raised for a total of $1620 on the night.
The Thunderbirds and Heat go at it again Saturday with tip-off starting at 7 p.m. at the War Memorial Gym.

REGINA – A late run in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference as the Calgary Dinos took a 77-66 road victory over Regina on Friday at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
Calgary (6-13) shot a ridiculous 96% from the free throw line, hitting 24 of its 25 attempts in the victory. Jarred Ogungbemi-Jackson led all players with 21 points, while Turner ended up 12-for-12 from the free throw line and with 16 points. Philip Barndt added 14 points and nine rebounds in the win, while Matt Letkeman scored 10 points and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds for a double-double.
Darius Mole was 3-for-4 from three-point range and led the Cougars (3-16) with 12 points. Travis Sylvestre and Jeremy Zver both added nine points for the U of R in the loss.
Calgary and Regina will finish off their two-game set on Saturday, 7:00 p.m. at the CKHS.

CALGARY – The Mount Royal Cougars stayed alive tonight defeating the Trinity Western Spartans handily, 98-85 ion Friday at home on Kenyon Court.
Kyle Wilson and Awet Abraha led the Cougars with 20 points. Denny McDonald scored a game-high 29 points for the Spartans.
With the win, Mount Royal moves one win closer to the Spartans, bumping their record to 8-11. TWU falls to 9-10 with the loss.
The Cougars and Spartans will do it all over again on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.

WINNIPEG - The Manitoba Bisons hung in with the country's #4 Alberta Golden Bears, for 20 minutes of play but were outplayed in the second half, losing 70-56 at Investors Group Athletic Centre on Friday.
With the win, Alberta wins their sixth straight and moves to 17-2, continuing their run atop Canada West's Prairie Division. Manitoba falls to 5-14.
Alberta was led by their school's all-time points leader, Jordan Baker, who had 16 points and ten boards. Joel Friesen and Czar Robotham came off the bench to add 10 and 12 points, respectively.
Manitoba's high points man was Mike Holloway, who had 12 with six rebounds. Andre Arruda and AJ Basi chipped in 11 each.
The Bisons men's basketball team finish their weekend back-to-back against Alberta on Saturday night, tipping off at 7 p.m.

WINNIPEG - A total team effort and some clutch shooting lifted the University of Winnipeg Wesmen to a 91-60 victory over the #9 Saskatchewan Huskies in a key match-up at the Dr. David F. Anderson Gymnasium on Friday.
Travis Krahn, back in the lineup after missing nine games due to injury, led the Wesmen with 18 points, all coming on three-pointers. Jelane Pryce added 15. Kurtis Sansregret had 14, with four-three pointers. Steven Wesley and Christopher Baxter each had 12.
Dadrian Collins led the Huskies with 19 points and hauled in eight rebounds. Matt Forbes added 16 while Ben Baker had 11 points and a game high nine rebounds.
Winnipeg improves their record to 13-6, one game back of the second place Huskies who sit with a record of 14-5.
The teams conclude their weekend series Saturday at 8:00 p.m..

PRINCE GEORGE, BC - The Fraser Valley Cascades extended their winning streak to 11 straight games on Friday at the Northern Sport Centre.
Fraser Valley, now 14-5, defeated the UNBC Timberwolves, with a record of 4-15, by a score of 87–62.
The Cascades were led by Kevon Parchment. The 6-3 Toronto native dropped 24 points and was a solid 5-5 from behind the arc. Jasper Moedt added 22 points and 12 rebounds.
Franck Olivier Kouagnia was dominant underneath the basket, putting back 17 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Forward Dan Stark chipped in 11 points and seven boards.
The Cascades and Timberwolves return to the Northern Sport Centre on Saturday for the Timberwolves final home game of the season, also live at canadawest.tv.

BRANDON, MB – The Lethbridge Pronghorns survived a late scare from the Brandon Bobcats, picking up a 73-69 win on Friday.
Four Pronghorns finished in double-digit scoring, led by Reiter and Olsen who each had 16 points. Alex Fletcher finished one rebound shy of a double-double (15 points, nine rebounds).
Four Bobcats finished in double-digits as well, led by Ilarion Bonhomme's team-high 16 points. Ali-Mounir Benabdelhak had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
The win improves Lethbridge's record to 13-6, while Brandon falls to 5-14.
The teams meet again on Saturday night, the Bobcats final home games of the season.

VANCOUVER - UBC moved above a .500 record for the first time since the second week of the season as they held out against a struggling UBC Okanagan Heat (3-16), who have now lost six games.
The 69-58 win moves the Thunderbirds to 10-9 with just three games remaining.
Friday's game also served as a fundraiser for KidSport Vancouver, a charity that ensures children in financial need have access to sporting opportunities. Every made UBC foul shot and missed UBCO one resulted in a $20 donation. A raffle at the game also contributed to a sum of $825 that was given to KidSport Vancouver. In the UBC-UBCO women's game on Friday, $795 was raised for a total of $1620 on the night.
The Thunderbirds and Heat go at it again Saturday with tip-off starting at 7 p.m. at the War Memorial Gym.

REGINA – A late run in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference as the Calgary Dinos took a 77-66 road victory over Regina on Friday at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
Calgary (6-13) shot a ridiculous 96% from the free throw line, hitting 24 of its 25 attempts in the victory. Jarred Ogungbemi-Jackson led all players with 21 points, while Turner ended up 12-for-12 from the free throw line and with 16 points. Philip Barndt added 14 points and nine rebounds in the win, while Matt Letkeman scored 10 points and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds for a double-double.
Darius Mole was 3-for-4 from three-point range and led the Cougars (3-16) with 12 points. Travis Sylvestre and Jeremy Zver both added nine points for the U of R in the loss.
Calgary and Regina will finish off their two-game set on Saturday, 7:00 p.m. at the CKHS.

CALGARY – The Mount Royal Cougars stayed alive tonight defeating the Trinity Western Spartans handily, 98-85 ion Friday at home on Kenyon Court.
Kyle Wilson and Awet Abraha led the Cougars with 20 points. Denny McDonald scored a game-high 29 points for the Spartans.
With the win, Mount Royal moves one win closer to the Spartans, bumping their record to 8-11. TWU falls to 9-10 with the loss.
The Cougars and Spartans will do it all over again on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
