Tsoumpas signs on as Dinos’ OL coach
CALGARY – University of Calgary Dinosfootball head coach Wayne Harris announced Wednesday thatthree-time Canadian Football League all-star Dimitri Tsoumpas willjoin the program as offensive line coach.
Tsoumpas, 29, enjoyed a stellar five-year career with theCalgary Stampeders, winning a Grey Cup title in his rookie seasonafter the Stamps selected him second overall in the 2008 CFL Draft.He went on to earn four straight CFL West All-Star nods at guardfrom 2009-12 and was recognized as a league all-star in each of2010, 2011, and 2012.
After retiring, Tsoumpas worked in strength and conditioning andassisted with the Stampeders in that area during their 2014 GreyCup championship season.
“When I got the call from Wayne, I thought it was theperfect opportunity,” said Tsoumpas. “Working with theStampeders I found I gravitated most toward the offensive line, andas I player I took pride in preparing my teammates and holding themto a higher standard. I tried to be exemplary in all the drillsthat I did, and the guys looked to me for leadership. In this newrole with the Dinos, I will have a chance to teach the youngplayers the lessons I’ve learned and share with them a wealthof knowledge as they develop over four or five years. I’velived it, I understand the strength and conditioning background,and I understand the football world. I’m really lookingforward to the opportunity.”

A native of Edmonton, Tsoumpas attended Weber State Universityin Ogden, Utah, where he earned second team Big Sky honours in hissenior year. He received a degree in kinesiology with a minor incoaching.
The Dinos will take the field at McMahon Stadium for Spring CampApril 29-May 3.
