MHKY: Cougars take the night with 6-2 victory

CALGARY - The Mount Royal University Cougars hosted the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns to a heated game at Flames Community Arena.

The first period began slowly as each team tried to gain their footing. Mount Royal was pushing back against a Pronghorns offensive as they vied for control. At 17 minutes, the Cougars took the lead with a quick goal from Mount Royal’s defenseman Jesse Lees, his fifth of the season.

Mount Royal dominated the second period as Mitch Lipon snuck the puck past Pronghorns goalie, Taz Burman, with assistance from Hunter Zandee. Shortly after, Brandan Arnold achieved a shorthanded goal. Some struggle later, Lethbridge retaliated with a goal of their own as Landon Gross gained the first point of the night on a powerplay.

Mount Royal held their own in the third period as they defended their lead. Brad Kennedy, with assistance from Lipon and Zandee, swept past the goalie to take the fourth goal of the night. First year forward Nolan Yaremko gained his first goal of his career eleven minutes in as he danced past the defence. Nic Sicoly found an advantage and swept a solo goal in for the sixth goal as the Cougars found a comfy lead.

As the game waned into its final minutes, the Pronghorns were seeking to make a final mark. Michael Clarke gained his second goal of the season with assistance from Gross, ending on a strong note.

The game wrapped up with a final score of 6-2. They face off again in Lethbridge on Saturday, November 9th, at 7 p.m. MST. It will be broadcasted live on, presented by Co-op.
