Canada West and SaskTel announce 2023 Football Showcase Schedule
SaskTel/TELUS to bring 19 CW football games to subscribers
The excitement of hard-hitting Canada West football is returning to SaskTel maxTV and maxTV Stream and TELUS Optik TV subscribers this fall.
The conference has unveiled its 2023 CW Football Showcase schedule, which will bring 19 total games to SaskTel subscribers on SaskTel maxTV and maxTV Stream.
The Saskatchewan-based telecommunications provider will host 16 regular season games on the air, including all matchups featuring the Regina Rams and Saskatchewan Huskies. SaskTel will also air all three CW playoff games, including the 86th annual Hardy Cup on Nov. 11.
Both Saskatchewan based teams are coming off strong campaigns and promise to be in championship contention again this season. The Huskies enjoyed a dominant 7-1 regular season record before defeating UBC in the conference championship to claim their 21st Hardy Cup in program history. Meanwhile, the Rams finished in second place with a solid 5-3 regular season campaign, before falling short in the conference semifinals.
Showcase action kicks off Sept. 1 with a pair of intriguing opening week matchups. The Huskies begin their championship defence by visiting Manitoba, while the Rams open their schedule at home against UBC.
Other schedule highlights include two rivalry showdowns between the Rams and Huskies on Sept. 8 and Oct. 28, as well as a 2022 Hardy Cup rematch between Saskatchewan and UBC on Sept. 29.
"SaskTel is proud to showcase some of the best varsity football in the country to our maxTV and maxTV Stream subscribers across the province," said Charlene Gavel, SaskTel President and CEO. "Partnering with Canada West for another football season not only provides our customers with unique local content, but also enables SaskTel to further support Saskatchewan's young sports talent by bringing greater focus to university athletics."
All Rams and Huskies games will also be available on maxTV Local on Demand. Viewers can find them on channels 48 or 348 for the Rams and 49 or 349 for the Huskies.
Fans in British Columbia and Alberta will be able to watch Showcase games on TELUS Optik TV, channels 997 and 998.
"We are extremely excited for another year of the Canada West Football Showcase on SaskTel and TELUS," says Rocky Olfert, Canada West's Managing Director. "SaskTel is a valued partner who has strived to elevate the profile of CW football across western Canada and beyond. We're grateful for their continued support of our student-athletes, and in particular their outstanding support of the two university programs in Saskatchewan. We can't wait for another great year of football leading up to the 86th annual Hardy Cup."
SaskTel has been the official television home of Canada West since 2017, airing games from the past five seasons, including the last five Hardy Cups.
All Canada West football games will also be available through streaming packages or single-game passes on Canada West TV.
