Volley Pandas beat Cougars for ninth straight win

EDMONTON – The No.1 ranked University of Alberta Pandas volleyball team recorded their ninth consecutive win of the 2016-17 Canada West season thanks to a straight sets win (25-17, 25-13 and 25-16) over the winless Regina Cougars on Friday night at the Saville Community Sports Centre.

The Pandas are now 9-0 on the season, and remain the only undefeated team in Canada West women's volleyball. Regina, meanwhile drops to 0-9 on the season.

Alberta received a match high 11 kills from fifth-year outside hitter Kacey Otto, who also recorded two aces and a match high 12 digs. Meg Casault, an all-Canadian in 2015-16, picked up 10 kills in the win, while Karly Janssen had eight kills, no errors and a 73% attack percentage.

The Cougars were led by six kills each from Jenna Krahn and Leah Sywanyk. Sywanyk, who previously played at South Florida State College, also had a 56% attack percentage, as well as one of four aces for Regina.

The two teams will conclude their two game series on Saturday evening with a 5:00 p.m. MST match time. The series is the last conference match-up for both teams in the 2016 calendar year, as Canada West will break for Christmas and the exam season following this weekend's play.
