WINNIPEG - Two of the top teams in all of Canada will be doing battle in a key Canada West Women's basketball showdown this weekend in Winnipeg.

The No. 7 ranked University of Winnipeg Wesmen will welcome the No. 2 ranked University of Regina Cougars. Winnipeg currently on a four game winning streak, heads into weekend play in top spot in the conference standings with a record of 15-1. The Cougars come to town winners of eight straight games and a record of 14-2, tied with the Alberta Pandas for 2nd spot.

Cascades, Vikes jockeying for playoff seeding

ABBOTSFORD - The Cascades and Vikes are side-by-side in the standings, and this weekend’s results will go a long way towards determining playoff seeding. Both teams have already secured post-season berths.

“Victoria has a veteran team with a real tough frontcourt and a couple guards who can shoot the ball, and they have some depth coming off their bench,” UFV head coach Al Tuchscherer said. “There are a lot of challenges playing against a team like that. We’re going to need to have our starters play great, but we’re also going to need to have some of our kids coming off the bench contribute heavily if we’re going to have some success this weekend.”

WolfPack set to play final regular season home games

KAMLOOPS - Fans of the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women’s basketball team, this weekend will be their final time to see them in person.

The WolfPack play their final two Canada West regular season home games on Friday and Saturday (Feb 3-4) when the University of Calgary Dinos come to the Tournament Capital Centre.

T-Birds take on Timberwolves in Courtside 2017

VANCOUVER - With a playoff spot clinched, the 12-4 UBC Thunderbirds host the UNBC Timberwolves at the second annual Courtside event in their final home games of the regular season. The 6-10 Timberwolves are two points clear of the final playoff berth, and have just four games left to book a ticket to the postseason. UBC has won three straight and are fourth in the Canada West, with a young roster that has continued to progress all year.

Cougars host Spartans with playoffs on the line

CALGARY - The Cougars' backs are up against the wall this weekend. Mount Royal will likely need to win three of their final four home games to have a shot at the postseason. Standing in their way are the Trinity Western Spartans who have already clinched a playoff berth.
