To get you set for this weekend's Canada West men's volleyball action, here are some storylines from around the conference in the latest edition of Cross Courts.
Heat take on Bisons at home after last weekend off
KELOWNA — This week marks the second week of regular season games for the Heat men’s volleyball team. Coming off of a bye weekend, the Heat will be looking to get back on track as they will defend their home court for the second time this year. This time against the University of Manitoba.
The two squads will open the weekend on Friday (Nov. 11) with a game that will begin at 8 p.m. The second game between the two teams will be played Saturday (Nov. 12) with a start time of 7 p.m. Both the games will take place at the UBC Okanagan gymnasium.
Golden Bears and Griffins set for second ever series at Saville
EDMONTON — This will be just the second time the Griffins have played in the Saville Community Sports Centre, and just the third conference series between the Bears and Pandas and MacEwan teams. Alberta hosted the Griffins volleyball teams in their inaugural season, 2014-15, and then traveled to MacEwan last season for a pair of matches. The Pandas are undefeated against the Griffins after two seasons, as are the Golden Bears.
No.5 Dinos look to get back on track with series against No.10 Wesmen
CALGARY — The Dinos will be back at the Jack this weekend to play their first home games of the season against the 3-1 Winnipeg Wesmen. The Dinos will look to elevate their 0-2 record after losing the first two games of the season to the Trinity Western Spartans, their playoff quarterfinal rivals from earlier this year.
WolfPack men’s volleyball hope home court translates into victories
KAMLOOPS — The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack are hoping the Warner Rentals court will be a ‘good luck’ charm for them. The WolfPack are still searching for their first Canada West men’s volleyball victory of the year. The 0-4 ‘Pack are at home this weekend at the Tournament Capital Centre as they face the Mount Royal University Cougars.
The teams will square off Friday (Nov. 11) at 7:45 p.m. and Saturday (Nov. 12) at 6:45 p.m.
The Cougars are rated eighth in the most recent USport Top 10 with a record of 1-1.
