Golden Bears and Cougars tangle in top 10 showdown

EDMONTON - Following their first home shutout in over 50 years, the No. 8 University of Alberta Golden Bears hockey team will look to start a new streak this weekend, as they tangle with the No. 7 Mount Royal Cougars in a home-and-home series.
The Cougars will host the Bears on Friday in Calgary, before the series travels up the QE2 to Edmonton, with puck drop set for 6:00 p.m., Saturday at Clare Drake Arena.
Although every series during the Canada West season is important, this may be the biggest one yet for the two provincial rivals. The Cougars currently lead the Bears by two points in the Canada West standings, owning a 15-6-1 record through 22 games, and currently occuping the No. 2 overall seed.
Cougars and Huskies meet for home-and-home set

REGINA - The University of Regina men's hockey team will square off against the No. 2-ranked Saskatchewan Huskies this weekend, with each team playing one game on home ice.
The Cougars (3-17-2) dropped two hard-fought battles at home against No. 7 Mount Royal on the weekend, falling short of a comeback in a 4-3 loss on Friday and losing 4-3 in overtime on Saturday afternoon. Ian McNulty had two goals on Friday and another on Saturday while Cody Fowlie totaled three assists in the weekend set.
Pronghorns need to turn the tide vs. T-Birds
LETHBRIDGE – Entering the semester break as one of the hottest teams in Canada West, the tide has turned on the Lethbridge Pronghorn men's hockey team and they face a must win weekend this week if they are to continue with a push to the post-season.
The Pronghorns host the UBC Thunderbirds for a pair of games at Nicholas Sheran Arena, puck drop is slated for 7:00pm Friday night and 1:00pm Saturday afternoon. All the action can also be caught on www.canadawest.tv.
Having lost six games in a row, the Pronghorns (8-11-3) are now fighting for their playoff lives along with the Thunderbirds (8-12-2). Following the Thunderbirds 4-2 win over the conference's top team, Saskatchewan Huskies, the T-Birds sit only one point behind the Pronghorns for the final playoff spot in Canada West.
