To get you set for this weekend’s Canada West men's hockey action, here are some storylines from around the conference in the latest edition of Ice Chips.
No. 2 Huskies set to welcome No. 7 Dinos
SASKATOON - For the third straight weekend series, the Huskies play the team directly behind them in the conference standings. The top four teams in the standings are separated by just five points.
T-Birds host Manitoba in third annual Winter Classic
Jeff Sargeant, UBC Sports Media
VANCOUVER - The UBC Thunderbirds (6-10-2) are home for the first time in 2017 this Friday, January 13th, hosting the Manitoba Bisons (8-9-1) in the third annual Winter Classic, the biggest hockey game of the season and with serious implications on the line for the playoff race.
The T-Birds enter the weekend three points back of the Bisons for the Canada West's final playoff berth with ten games left in the regular season. UBC earned a weekend split the last time these two met in Winnipeg back in October and a pair of wins this weekend would be huge for either squad.
Cougars to play pivotal home-and-home with Pronghorns
CALGARY - The Pronghorns are hot on the Cougars' trail, sitting just four points back in the Canada West standings. Lethbridge swept Mount Royal in November as the Cougars trotted out their most depleted lineup of the season.
Golden Bears look to continue dominance over Regina
Connor Hood, Bears and Pandas Athletics
EDMONTON - With both a substantial conference win streak, and conference home win streak at stake, the 11-6-1 University of Alberta Golden Bears hockey team will battle the 3-14-1 Regina Cougars, this weekend at Clare Drake Arena.
Game one of the two game set is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while game two will get underway at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
