Setter Adam Schriemer did more than his part to make the sure the Trinity Western Spartans would have a shot at repeating as U SPORTS men’s volleyball champions, as the veteran earned the tournament’s MVP award after a trio of strong performances.
The fourth-year player was phenomenal all weekend for the defending champions, who successfully repeated on the national stage, downing the host Alberta Golden Bears in the national final on Sunday.
Schriemer recorded a total of 125 assists over the weekend, averaging 11.36 assists per set. The Winnipeg, Man. product also added 13 digs and nine kills to help secure the second back-to-back national titles in Spartans history, equalling the feat first accomplished by the 2011 and 2012 TWU teams.
With the win, Trinity Western has now won four of the last seven national titles.
